The Beer Engine wins Pub of the Year

Will and Vicki, Landlords of the Beer Engine, receiving the Exeter and East Devon CAMRA Pub of the Year Award, hot on the heals of winning the local NBSS award. The picture was taken by Caroline Trevaskis on Monday evening 21st. May when the award was presented by Tim Gilbert, brewery liaison officer.
Caroline Trevaskis writes: "Exeter and East Devon CAMRA – Pub of the Year. We are delighted to announce that the members of Exeter and East Devon Branch of CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) have voted the Beer Engine at Newton St Cyres as their Pub of the Year. The branch chose the Beer Engine from a shortlist of six of the best pubs in the branch area, including previous winners The Tom Cobley, Spreyton and The Bridge Inn, Topsham. The Beer Engine has for many years beenrenowned for brewing it’s own beer. Being located directly next to the Exeter to Barnstaple railway line, all the beers have a railway themed name such as Rail Ale and Piston bitter. The brewer, Ian Sharp, has been at the pub for over thirty years. Members felt it stands out as a pub which consistently provides not only good cask ale, but a warm welcome to everyone whether you are a first time visitor of a regular. Congratulations to Will, Victoria and Ian on this well deserved win. The Pub of the Year is a prestigious award, given to the pub felt to have shown continued excellence in the keeping and serving of real ale. The Beer Engine will now be judged against other pubs in the region that have been voted Pubs of the Year by their branches, with the lucky winner going forward to final of the National Pub of the Year." |
Hanlons win Gold
Hanlons Brewery are thrilled to announce that they have won a Gold in the Speciality Beers Category with their Port Stout in the Campaign for Real Ale Champion Beer of Britain South West Regional Competition 2017. The award was presented by Exeter Camra to Head Brewer, Richard Mayne at Hanlons Brewery bar that is open every Friday evening from 5pm. Port Stout is a 4.8% Dark Stout that has warming hints of coffee, chocolate and rich ruby port.
